Who Moved Your Joy?

January 16, 2013

Who Moved Your Joy?

Habakuk 3:18

Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

ARE YOU TIRED? DEPRESSED? DISCOURAGED? READY TO QUIT? It sounds like your joy has been moved.

There is a story about some mice who lost their cheese. One day they were stuffing tons of provolone in their faces, the next nothing. Each rat reacted differently. One little rodent expected someone, or something else to hand him more cheddar on a platter. Another mouse half-heartedly tried to get more cheese then quit. He tried to find a little slice of mozzarella, then quit completely. The last fella actively sought the big cheese and found a new mound. Yippee.

These mice lost something important, if your joy is gone, you have lost something important too. Just like these mice you have choices:

* Do nothing waiting for joy to be given to you.

* Try a few things, quit, try again, quit- give up completely.

* Actively seek joy.

Which one would be the wisest choice? While you’re thinking realize that GOD WANT’S YOU TO HAVE JOY! John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. If you have lost your joy there are some things you can do to get it back.

THINGS YOU CAN DO TO GET YOU JOY BACK

Get Some Uplifting Music 1 Chronicles 15:16 And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy. The other night my husband spoke at a city council meeting to present an issue. Let’s just say that I left filled with a severe case of road rage. Instead of putting the pedal to the metal, I slipped in a Committed CD and cranked up the volume. By the time I arrived home I had my joy back. It is difficult to stay stressed when my son-in-law, Heath Bartlett, is belting out “Victory in Jesus.” Good music sets the atmosphere. Good loud music makes it difficult to start an argument. Good music will put your kids to sleep at night or wake them up in the morning. Music in the car will keep the joy level up while traveling to school. Invest in tons of great songs of praise.

Give Your Time, Talent, and Treasure. I Chronicles 29:17 As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, I have a heart issue called SVTC. This condition sometimes makes me feel a bit joyless. Instead of cocooning in my bed like I want to, I have found that my joy returns if I go out soul-winning. My husband or a friend will drive me to a fast food restaurant. There I go table to table witnessing. In a short time my joy is intact. When your joy comes up missing, start passing out blessing to others. Focus on giving and what you will get is joy.

Remember God’s Goodness in the Past. Ezra 3:12 When the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes,… wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy. When I think about how God has blessed me over and over, I just about have a joy fit. Dwell on positive events. Praise the Lord for all He has done for you. Counting blessings will keep you joyful.

Attend Church Ezra 6:16And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy, Your joy will stay in top notch shape when you are faithful to church. It is a place full of joy. Wonderful songs, sermons, and servants of God are present in the house of God. Hang with the folks who have joy and it will rub off on you.

Do Daily Routines With Joy  Ecclesiastes 9:7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy,  I love all of the daily things I get to do. Sweep, mop, rake, type, dust, drive, walk, call, listen, fold, and wipe are pleasurable activities. Each event is a joy. My daughter-in-law Cesia taught me pray for my husband while ironing his shirts. When I do the arms, I pray for his strength. While I press the collar I pray he will have the mind of Christ. The shirt front reminds me to pray he will be protected. I pray that I will always be behind him when I de-wrinkle the back of the shirt. This keeps joy flowing while doing a routine activity.

Don’t judge or be critical or compare yourself to others. Isaiah 29:19 The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD,  It is hard not to compare myself to others. I want her hair, that girls body, someone else’s garden, and any different paycheck. I can easily loose my joy when I have trouble finding one thing about myself in which I am happy. Meek is not weak. Meek is accepting yourself and others as they are. The ground at the foot of the cross is level. Restrain from judging yourself or others and your joy won’t fly out of the window.

Remember your salvation daily. Habakkuk 3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. I was saved on January 13th, 1982. I still haven’ gotten over it. Every time I think about it, I get happy chills! Dwell on the day you trusted Christ. Celebrate your spiritual birthday. I’m smiling just thinking about it.

Read your Bible until you feel joyful. Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; When I feel my joy draining out into the dirt, I picked up my Sword. It brims with joy. The promises of God brings bliss. Knowing that God loves me and deeply cares keeps the delight running through my veins.

Some Joy Tips To Remember

NO ONE MOVED YOUR JOY, YOU DROPPED IT

John 16:22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again,

and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

YOUR JOY DOES NOT HAVE TO  MOVED

Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life

dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

DO A JOY CHECK DAILY

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the LORD always, and again I say rejoice.

Joy is wonderful. Practice keeping it, don’t drop it, and enjoy every joyful minute God has planned for you.
