Mrs. Noah

Mrs. Noah

NOAH’S WIFE

Noah’s wife was on the ark with her husband, three son’s, their wives, and many animals.

First mentioned - Genesis 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark,

thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

She had three sons - Genesis 6:10  And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

She was on the ark - Genesis 7:7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.

She was on the ark with animals - Genesis 6:19  And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.

She survived the flood - Genesis 8:16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee.

Other than these things, everything we discuss  about her will be a logical surmise.

Noah’s agenda was her agenda

Proverbs 31:23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

The most important thing in her household was her husband’s agenda. Whether it be walking with God, preaching, building, collecting animals or food. Noah was not distracted with his wife’s agenda.    “Well, I’ve got to go to the Tupperware party/dinner with girl friends/need a break from the kids...”    It’s wrong when the woman demands that the man change his agenda to match her agenda!      When your husband asked you to marry him, he was asking you to jump out of your life and jump into his life.  It’s not wrong for the husband to be helpful with the house and kids, it’s the wife’s attitude of demanding it that is wrong!   Mrs. Noah let Noah have his agenda (which was God’s agenda).

She was a helpmeet in the truest sense

I imagine Mrs. Noah helping with the livestock, helping prepare foods to be preserved, and packing up household items. Not interfering, not leading, not giving her opinion...but helping Noah achieve his goal.

She encouraged Noah before, during, & after the flood

While building, collecting and preaching / waiting, cooking, homemaking, feeding everything on board the ark, starting a new life, becoming a husbandman in a vineyard.

She raised good children

All her sons were on board, and the same page as their dad. Sons are listed before the wife is. Mrs. Noah encouraged Noah to be close to the boys

She got along with her daughter-in-laws

No record of any disharmony on the ark....4 grown women on the ark!

She gave Noah room to serve God

She gave him the space to serve where God wanted him to serve. Building, preaching, zoo keeper, start a new colony, talking to the Lord, building the first alter, vineyard. Her voice was not louder, more demanding, or more prominent that God’s.    If you have your husband so stinking busy at the house doing “your chores”, he will choose pleasing you over pleasing God.

She trusted her husband

This goes without saying!

She trusted the Lord

She trusted that this is what the Lord said. She also trusted during the horror of the actual flood. And then the disappointment of Ham’s shame.

She stood by her man

2 Peter 2:5  And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

None of her neighbors or friends believed her husbands warnings. I am sure it was the talk of the town how this family was building and ark.

Though she is not named, one of the best acts of obedience is recorded about her husband. Her sons went on the replenish the earth. All the blessings that fell to Noah, fell to her also. A great, great woman, who knew the greatest place to serve the Lord was in the background.
