Medication and Meditation

Psalm 119:97

MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

After I was diagnosed with Lyme’s Disease, I was given the opportunity to enroll in a drug study. In the study, some patients receive the full course of meds, some receive less, and some receive none. The subject (me) does not know which they are getting, for all patients receive 52 pills. Along with the medication, you get a shiny new journal to record your symptoms, free doctors visits, and an ending consultation. You also would get a full course of medicine for FREE, if you were one of the study subject who got less than the full dosage or none at all. Wow! What a great way to save money and help humanity!

As I sat there in pain, swollen, disoriented, burning, itching, and in general feeling like death’s door, I easily declined. I wanted all the meds., the best meds., and in the proper dosage AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!

Later, while driving home from my local pharmacy, I set the big bag of new drugs on the seat next to my Bible. Next to my Bible. Hummmmm….

What little of my mind that I have left ; rabbit trailed a few thoughts. My spirit also needs medicine.

That medicine is God’s Word.

I want all the Word, the best Word, and in the proper dosage.

I thought of may interesting books in my marriage, childrearing, Christian womanhood collection that used various versions of the Bible. Oh, I usually just inserted the King James version for the other version’s verse where needed. I would read these books, and absorb the truths I felt lined up with the true, living, Bible (KJV).

I then wondered how many times a falsehood, half-truth, or slanted opinion had slipped through to my spirit. I wondered if perhaps entire books and seeped into my heart instead of God’s refreshing ‘medicine’. I pondered if indeed sometimes I was on All the ‘meds’, Some of the ‘meds’, or None at all?

Just as my physical health is too important to play medical Russian roulette, so is my spiritual health. I need all the Word, the best Word, and in the proper dosage.

Some of my medication I can’t take with milk, some no vitamins, some at night, some six hours apart, some four hours, and some as needed! I have to make sure I get all my meds every day!

I also need to grow out of just reading the Proverbs for the day or Psalms. Just reading three chapters and checking off a list. Won’t cut it for my spiritual health. Every single word is precious, important, and there for a Devine reason. Cover to cover. True, I don’t understand every word; yet. But one day I might. I still want to read and treasure ALL THE WORD.

Proverbs 14:15

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Matthew 4:4

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Deuteronomy 8:3

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with

manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he

might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by

every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man

With this Lyme’s disease, I take the brand name medication. I know they say generic is the same stuff, but I want the pure, original drugs

The King James Bible is the original, pure, word of God. There are many publications printed about the history and attributes of the King James Bible. I would recommend, “Purified Seven Times”, by Lawrence M. Vance. It is a nice short book that gets straight to the point.

In addition, here are a few key verses I would like to point out:

Ps 119:89

For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Forever means, forever. In Heaven resides God’s Word. The Word mentioned in John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jesus is the WORD! Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

One of the loving attributes of my Saviour is that HE NEVER CHANGES. Thus the Word never changes! Man may change words to bring the Bible down to his level, but God’s Word’s are forever settled in Heaven.

I’d like to throw in Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you., which needs not clarification at all! (see Revelation 22:19)

As my strength returns, I would like to back off some of my medication. Including supplements I am close to twenty five pills a day! YIKES! Oh, and a vitamin drink. But these chemicals are what is moving me day by day to strength and wellness.

My proper Bible dosage lately has been quite extensive. I have enjoyed every hour and every word. As my body heals, there is the tendency to insert other activities into my life. I realize it is not plausible to read scripture all day, but it is possible to slot more time to a task that will increase my spiritual strength and wellness. I have to honestly look at my life and decide what is the proper dosage, not “What do I have time for”, or “What do I want to do.” or even “What do I enjoy’.

I am happy with my decision about not becoming a lab rat. Sorry humanity, a healthy body is my priority right now.

I am also happy with my decision to pack away two boxes of nice books and let them rest in the basement for awhile. A healthy spirit is my priority right now……….
