Every feel like you joy is not longer, “Down in your heart?” Feeling like your joy is slipping? Here are a few tips for a joy make over!

1. Joy comes from soaking in God’s word.

1 John 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

It is vital that you read your Joy Book (the Bible) daily. The secret is having a PLAN. There are a zillion different plans for reading your Bible on the internet.

Not only is reading important, but so is memorizing. The older you get, the harder it is to memorize. Write one verse on an index card, and keep that card with you until you have it memorized. It might take a week or two, but that is OK. The important point is to have a verse you are working on at all times.

Perhaps you are already reading your Bible and have a memorization plan. Now it is time to take the next step to having a personal Bible study. A nice way to start is to get a devotional, or a Christian book you are interested in. Read a section each day, and write your thought about what you read in the book, or in a notebook. Do this for thirty days in a row. Make sure the books you use are KJV ONLY!

Once you go through a few books like this, you are ready for a personal Bible study. Ask your pastor, or a Christian friend for suggestions on what would be a good study for you.

2. Joy come from prayer

John 16:2 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive,

that your joy may be full.

Leave your heavy burdens at the cross. Our prayer list has turned into a health and finance report, no wonder we have lost our joy. Pray for revival, the lost, growth, relationships, folks coming back to God, etc. In other words, pray for eternal requests.

PLAN, ORGANIZE, WRITE IT DOWN. The gals who are the best prayer warriors have a set time they pray, a way they pray, and a prayer list.

3. Joy comes when you are joyful.

Acts 2:2 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

Our faces fall in a frown so practice smiling. Look happy, be happy, dress happy. Is the entire world in morning? Everyone wears BLACK, get a splash of color.

You can only think of one thought at a time, so choose to think positive happy thoughts.

4. Joy comes when you speak joyfully

John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you,

and that your joy might be full.

Negative talk is an easy, horrible habit. NEVER say anything negative, especially about yourself. Take every opportunity to say something positive and joyful.

Everything you say should pass the wise and kind test.

Proverbs 31:26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of

You should be known by our joyful words.

5. Joy comes when you sing

Psalm 81:1 Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

Sing along with songs of joy. The music you play in your home will set the spirit of your home. Encourage learning an instrument to your family members. Music brings joy.

6. Joy comes when you spend time with God’s creation

Psalm 96:12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees

of the wood rejoice.

God made nature for us to enjoy daily. To the degree you do that will be the degree you have joy! Spend 30 minutes outside each day breathing the fresh air and noticing every part of God’s creation.

7. Joy comes when you praise God

Psalm 35:27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

When is your praise time? Folks tend to plan when to eat, work, sleep, pray, read, and have fun. It is just as vital to have a set time to praise our Lord.

Isaiah 6:8 has a great outline on what to praise the Lord for.

8. Joy comes when we remember our salvation

Psalm51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Celebrate your spiritual birthday. Remember your salvation and thank God daily. Tell your testimony often. Never forget that wonderful day.

9. Joy comes from the little things

Ecclesiastes 9:7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.

Enjoy water, your furniture, and your pets. Take time to taste, feel, smell, touch, hear each thing in your life. Get excited about driving to work, setting the table, and helping your child with their homework. Enjoying the little things will add up to enjoying a big part of your life.

10. Joy comes when you think of others

2 Corinthians 7:13 Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

J-O-Y stands for Jesus first, yourself last, and others in between. Lacking joy? See who you can refresh, restore, or encourage.

11. Joy comes from being thankful

1 Thessalonians 3:9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;

If we started now, it would take days and days to thank God for all He has done for us. A thankful heart is a joyful heart. Feeling less than joyful today? Start counting you blessings. Go through the alphabet using each letter as a prompt for what you can be thankful for.

12. Joy comes when you realize how much God loves you

1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: (because of His love)

When you received Christ, you received 100% of God’s love. Just at Salvation is forever, so is God’s love for YOU! You have eternal security, You also have love security. When you realize how much the Lord loves you, your joy will soar!

Keep your joy, joy, joy, joy down in your heart by applying one or more of the verses and principles listed above. And if the devil doesn’t like it he can sit on a tack!
