A Lifetime of Christian Education
Christian Education is not "school." Christian education is acquiring wisdom, knowledge, & understanding. A child's Christian education is the sole duty of their parents...not their Christian school, or Sunday school, or Junior church...those ministries are good and sometimes are all the education that some kids get.
Just because we are adults does not mean our Christian education is over. We NEVER stop being educated. Just like in school, we must have a plan for our education or nothing gets accomplished: Scope & Sequence (yearly overview/goal), Curriculum (what we learn throughout the year), Weekly Lesson plan, and Daily Lesson plan. One of our goals should be passing on the wisdom, knowledge & understanding that we have gotten, and you can't pass on what you don't know. An effective educator is prepared and knows their stuff! We can't just wing it...we need a plan!
1. Our Scope & Sequence (the BIG picture): to be like Christ.
2. Our Curriculum: what area do you want to advance in? Ask God what He wants you to work on and learn. He knows your plan for all year long and knows what you are going to need.
3. What are you doing TODAY to reach your goal? Bible study, prayer, taking enough good stuff into your mind & soul to push out the bad stuff being thrown at you, good music, praise.
4. It takes work! II Tim 2:15 says, Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. A successful student is the one who read, takes notes, and uses all resources available to them to study! I Thess 4:11 says, And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
The devil is thrilled when you fail and will constantly be throwing things at you to stop your Christian education. Don't let his pitfalls get in your way.
-Telling is not training. Just because you hear it doesn't mean you have learned it.
-DOING is learning. You must work at it!
-Life's opportunities/trials are all part of your education. II Cor 4:17 says, For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
-There will be gaps in your education, but the Father has given you a gap-filler: the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 says, But the Comforter, whhich is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
