The Excellent Wife
The Excellent Wife
Instead of application, this class is going to be more principle based. If there’s no foundation for the applications we always teach, you will topple over trying to do them.
Prov 14:1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
Ps 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:
The Lord is going to give us Biblical principles today and you will have a great foundation to build the applications on.
God Has a Will
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God… all things Christian begin with this!
Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
To bring God glory is our ONE job as a Christian woman/wife/mother. We only have one WILL here on earth. Glory – attention & praise.
I Chron 16:28 Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
Ps 29:1-2 Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
Our purpose is NOT to make our husbands happy…..our purpose is to bring God glory. Every thought, action, and attitude should bring God glory.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Gen 2:18 tells us the WORK that God planned for women. And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
I Cor 11:9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
The most important MINISTRY that a woman has is her husband. A woman was created for her husband. Focus on what you are supposed to be doing in God’s work, not what your husband is supposed to be doing. When you start having only horizontal relationships, you will get hurt and have a bad attitude…but when you focus on the vertical relationship with God, you will stay happy in your earthly relationships. You can still be the most wonderful Christian wife in God’s eyes as long as you are focusing on bringing God glory….anytime your life turns to “self” you have a train wreck.
-Do not compare your ministry (marriage) to others’ marriages.
II Cor 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
Each “ministry” is different. There is no comparison in marriage just like there is no comparison in the nursery ministry-vs-the bus ministry.
God gave us a ministry / a work. He didn’t give us a Disney Land! “Her husband does ______.” That only leads to strife, envy, and jealousy.
I Cor 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Compare spiritual things with spiritual. It’s okay to ask for help in ways to handle your ministry…in your work.
Watch out if you are seeking glory for yourself in your ministry. Don’t live in that prideful arena of “I have a great marriage.” If you are because it makes you look good, you have failed miserably. You get a big ZERO in God’s eyes. Pride in your job as a wife or mother is a train wreck.
Prov 25:27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
I Thess 2:6 Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
A Key factor in bring God Glory in my ministry is SUBMISSION.
“Sub” means under or beneath. “Mission” is a goal, work, or passion. Underneath everything we do should be to bring God glory. Obedience does not mean you are submissive. Wives who think submission is simply obedience eventually crack up. Submission is a heart attitude. Underneath everything you do ---he doesn’t pick up his dishes, he’s late, he disciplines the kids different than you –--if you just simply obey be not saying anything you are not bringing God glory. Forgiving him immediately brings God glory. Praying, “Lord, that is your man…” giving him to God instead of a fake obedience will bring God glory instead of causing strife in your marriage.
Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Doing your work for man or for yourself will only cause burn out. Doing your ministry work for God will bring peace and glory to God.
Col 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Jer 31:22 How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? for the Lord hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man. Don’t be this woman! This is where woman are today.
Ps 118:23 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ….. When bringing God glory is your motive, you can be an excellent wife no matter what your husband is like! You will every day 100% reach your purpose of bringing God glory.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
A lack of love for God and an immense love for self is why we fail at the ministry God gave women! We need to fall back in love with God.
II Tim 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
John 15:10-11 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
God Has a Plan
Your Ministry Has Eternal Worth.
II Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
My ministry will be judged. As women, we want it NOW! Remember we have Eve’s blood running through our veins and she wanted it NOW.
I Pet 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Eccl 3:11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time…
God will decide when our work will be exalted.
